Lead

SymbolPb

This is a short overview. For the background — history, value over time and notable mines — see Lead →

Occurs in: Hydrothermal Deposits, Veins and Lodes →

A soft, dense, low-melting metal, traditionally smelted from galena ore after crushing and dressing. Widely used for roofing, pipework, shot and, historically, paint, thanks to its malleability and resistance to corrosion.
