Mines in South Yorkshire
South Yorkshire's Cadeby Main Colliery is inseparable from one of Britain's worst mining disasters: a firedamp explosion on 9 July 1912 killed 35 of the 37 miners on shift, and a second explosion hours later killed several more of the rescue party sent in to search for survivors.
