Mines in Lancashire

Lancashire's Hapton Valley Colliery worked the gas-prone seams of the Burnley Coalfield for almost 130 years, surviving to become the coalfield's last deep mine before a 1962 firedamp explosion, the third gas ignition there in under two years, killed 19 men.
