Dorman, Long and Company

The Middlesbrough iron and steel combine, formed in 1875, that absorbed Bolckow, Vaughan in 1929 and took on its Cleveland ironstone mines and collieries with it: North Skelton, worked through to closure in 1964, and Dean and Chapter from 1 November 1929 until nationalisation in 1947, among others. Dorman Long is best remembered for what it built with the steel: the Sydney Harbour Bridge, completed in 1932, and the Tyne Bridge before it.
