Bolckow, Vaughan and Company

The Middlesbrough ironmasters Henry Bolckow and John Vaughan, whose partnership effectively created the Teesside iron industry. Vaughan’s discovery of the Eston ironstone in 1850 gave the firm its own ore supply within sight of its own furnaces, and Middlesbrough grew around the result. The company held Eston for seventy-nine years before being taken over by Dorman, Long in 1929.
