Mines in Cheshire
Cheshire's principal mining site, Alderley Edge, was worked on and off for around 4,000 years — from Bronze Age copper extraction, through a Roman-era phase evidenced by a hoard of 4th-century coins found in one of its shafts, to a final industrial period mining copper, lead and cobalt that ended in the 1920s.
