Mines in Carmarthenshire

Carmarthenshire's mining history begins with the Romans, who developed sophisticated hydraulic techniques to work gold at Dolaucothi — the only place in Britain where they're known to have done so on an industrial scale. The county's other major mine, Nantymwyn, was a lead producer instead, at its Georgian peak the largest in south Wales and employing over 400 people in the hills above Rhandirmwyn.
