Mines in Flintshire
Flintshire's mining wealth came chiefly from lead, worked most intensively on Halkyn Mountain from the Bronze Age through to the 20th century under a succession of operators including the London Lead Company. The mountain's drainage levels were engineering projects in their own right, driven for miles underground simply to keep the workings dry enough to reach the ore beneath.
