William Baird & Company
Coatbridge ironmasters and colliery owners who sank the first pit at Barony in 1907, and who bought Raasay in 1911 to secure their own iron ore supply, developing the mine from 1913 and bringing in German prisoner-of-war labour during the First World War to keep it working. The company's Ayrshire interests were combined with those of the Dalmellington Iron Company in 1931 to form Bairds and Dalmellington Ltd.
