A small colliery at Ulgham Grange, near Widdrington, worked by Wood and Slinn from 1871 until its three seams were worked out in 1888.
History
Ulgham Grange Colliery lay at Ulgham Grange, near Widdrington, in Ulgham parish, about thirteen and a half miles south-south-east of Alnwick. It was worked from 1871 by Wood and Slinn, who owned it in the 1880s, with Robert Wood as manager from 1882 to 1888. Its coal was sold at the pit as landsale in 1882, and coal is returned for 1883 and 1888.
The colliery worked three seams, the Top, the Middle and the Bottom. All three were worked out in 1888, and their plans are dated 1 October that year. The colliery is shown on the second edition Ordnance Survey map of 1890 and is marked disused on the third edition of 1920. Much later, plans of the Linton workings in the Bentinck seam carry the name Ulgham Grange.
