On 2 October 1952 three men were killed and many injured when a man-riding train crashed at Mosley Common Colliery, near Tyldesley in Lancashire.

Cause
A man-riding train (paddy) accident as the men were being carried towards the coal face.
What happened
Herbert Ormrod, aged 38, E. Taylor, aged 27, and W. N. Wood, aged 55, were killed and many others hurt in a man-riding train crash; the press reported three dead and thirty-four injured. The colliery was by then worked by the National Coal Board.
