Weardale Iron and Coal Company

Ironmasters and colliery owners based at Tudhoe and Tow Law in south-west Durham, formed in the 1840s to work Weardale ironstone and Durham coal for their own furnaces. By the 1870s the company owned around a dozen collieries from Guisborough to Weardale, Bishop Middleham among them; it was reconstituted as the Weardale Steel, Coal and Coke Company in the 1890s, which still held the Bishop Middleham royalty as lessor into the twentieth century.
