History
Teesside, or Tees Side, Colliery lay near Winston in Teesdale. After Westholme Colliery at Winston closed in 1914, efforts turned to two new collieries, Teesside and North Tees.
Tees Side employed 33 people in 1923, 27 of them underground, working the Brockwell, and from 1924 the Winston or Winston Main seam, raising household, steam and some manufacturing coal. G. H. Lowson was agent and J. G. Bell manager through the 1920s. H. Lowson Ltd and then the Winston Coal and Brick Company owned it in the 1930s. Its workforce shrank steadily, to 15 in 1925, 12 in 1930 and seven in 1935.
The Winston seam was abandoned on 31 August 1938, when the colliery closed.
