Anhydrite

The anhydrous form of calcium sulphate, formed alongside gypsum where evaporite beds have been buried deeply enough to drive off their water of crystallisation. It is harder and denser than gypsum and will not make plaster directly, so it was long treated as a contaminant, but it is used in cement manufacture and as a source of sulphur compounds.
