Allen Searell (also spelled Alan) was a Devon man who came to Beddgelert in 1841 to develop mining and managed a string of North Wales ventures. He worked copper at Sygun, developed the Hafod y Llan slate quarry in Cwm Llan and speculated successfully in the copper mine of the same name, and later ran the Cwmorthin slate quarry; a venture at Cefncam went badly. He died in 1865.
