MineArchiveTredegar Iron and Coal Company
The successor to the Tredegar Iron Company of 1800, which ceased making iron in 1891 and went on developing and working collieries in the Sirhowy and Rhymney valleys until nationalisation. It leased the ground at Oakdale in 1906 and sank the colliery through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Oakdale Colliery Company, financed entirely from the parent company's own profits; McLaren Colliery at Abertysswg was another of its pits, and its own wagons are lettered 'Tredegar' in a photograph of the works taken about 1901.
