Formed by the 1903 merger of Samuel Lloyd's Lloyds Ironstone Company with the Scottish firm A. & J. Stewart and Menzies, and the company that built the Corby ironworks and steelworks these quarries fed. It also took over Kilnhurst Colliery in 1923, opening its Silkstone seam in 1929.
