Hetton Coal Company
The company formed in the 1820s to sink through the Magnesian Limestone to the concealed coalfield of East Durham — one of the boldest mining ventures of its day — and the owner of the Hetton collieries including Eppleton. It was latterly run as the Hon. A. Cochrane & Partners before merging into Lambton & Hetton Collieries Ltd in 1911.
