Bristol United Collieries
Formed in 1894 when the Bennett family, owners of Dean Lane Colliery in Bedminster, took over Leonard, Boult and Co (acquired 1893) together with the Easton, Hanham, Pennywell Road and Whitehall collieries. Reorganised in 1900 as Bedminster, Easton, Kingswood and Parkfield Collieries Ltd on acquiring Deep Pit, Speedwell, Parkfield and South Pit collieries, consolidating ownership of the main Kingswood pits under J. R. and A. H. Bennett; at its height the Kingswood group alone employed over 2,000 men. The firm went bankrupt in 1914 and was taken over by the East Bristol Collieries.
