Barrow-in-Furness Hematite Steel Co.
English steel company, also referred to in some sources as the Barrow Steam Coal Company or simply 'the Barrow Company'. Bought the Bryncethin colliery from Glassbrook in 1873 and sank the deep No.2 and No.3 shafts to reach steam-coal seams. In Furness it found the Stank haematite vein while boring for coal, leased the ground from 1871 and took over the neighbouring Yarlside mines in 1892.
