Overview
A small level at Trebanos near Pontardawe, also called Five Boys, worked for the Graigola seam in 1925-27 and again in 1930-35 by the Glyndyle Graigola Colliery Company.
History
Glyndyle Graigola Colliery, also called Five Boys, was a small level at Trebanos, near Pontardawe in the Swansea Valley. It was worked by the Glyndyle Graigola Colliery Company of 2 Bowens Terrace, Trebanos, for manufacturing and steam coal from the Graigola seam.
The first level, the Glyndyle, was opened in 1925 and worked until 1927. The No. 2, or Glyndyle Graigola, was opened in 1930 and worked until 1935; it employed 13 men in 1933 and, in 1934, six underground and four at the surface, with H. Griffiths as manager.
The Graigola seam was abandoned in 1936, and the plans of the Glyndyle, Glyndyle Graigola or Five Boys workings are dated that year.
