Mines in Hampshire

Hampshire's mineral is clay. The London Clay of the Hampshire Basin, weathered brown at the top and blue beneath, made the county one of the great brickmaking districts of southern England — Fareham reds went into buildings far beyond the county — and its extraction sites are claypits and brickworks rather than mines.
