Mines in Falkirk

Falkirk's coal was worked along the south shore of the Firth of Forth around Bo'ness, a burgh that lived on coal and salt for centuries and shipped both from its own harbour. Its last pit, Kinneil, ended up joined underground to a colliery in Fife — so that for nearly twenty years the county's mining reached out under the Forth and came up on the other side.
