William West

Cornish mining engineer (1801–1879), born at Dolcoath: engineer at Great Wheal Towan in the late 1820s, where he lagged an engine's boilers with sawdust, then at Fowey Consols from 1831, founder of the St Blazey engine works in 1848 and at his death principal proprietor of Phoenix and West Phoenix United.
