MineArchiveSir George Elliot
A Durham colliery owner and Conservative MP who began as a pitman and rose to own collieries across the county. He held Usworth Colliery from its sinking in 1845, in partnership with J. Johansson, and also appears as an owner of Sacriston Colliery in the 1860s.
