Sir Bevis Bulmer
Sir Bevis Bulmer (1536-1615) was an Elizabethan mining engineer and speculator who took over the lease to work the Combe Martin silver and lead mines in Devon in 1587, running the venture profitably for four years, and from 1592 partnered with Thomas Foulis to work the gold- and lead-bearing ground at Glengonnar, near Leadhills, later working mines across England and Scotland; at Hilderston he named and developed the 'God's Blessing' shaft from 1607 and was appointed governor of the works when the Crown took over royal extraction in 1608.
