Shropshire Mines Ltd
The company that reworked the Bog, on the edge of the Stiperstones, for barytes after lead had failed there, having taken the mine on in 1907 as Bog Mines Ltd. In 1917 it drove the 123-metre Somme Tunnel, which found nothing of value — it has been suggested the company expected as much, and drove it to keep men in work and out of conscription.
