Roads Reconstruction (1934) Ltd.

The company formed by the amalgamation of many Mendip quarrying firms during the uncertain markets of 1926 to 1933. It rationalised the twelve sites it inherited, opened New Frome Quarry — later Whatley — in 1937, and by 1987 had concentrated virtually all its Mendip production on Whatley in the east and Batts Coombe in the west.
