Oakeley Company
The Oakeley Slate Quarries Company was created in 1883 by amalgamating the Upper (Holland's) and Middle quarries at Blaenau Ffestiniog, later adding Cwmorthin and Nyth y Gigfran to become the third-largest producer in the Welsh slate industry, employing around 1,700 men across the largest underground slate mine in the world.
