John Calvert

Yorkshire railway contractor (and later colliery owner) who was Brunel's principal contractor on the Taff Vale Railway in the 1840s, stayed in south Wales after it was finished, and sank first the Newbridge Colliery at Gelliwion and then the Gyfeillion Pit that became the Great Western Colliery.
