Hoyland Silkstone Coal and Coke Co., Ltd.
The company formed in November 1888, with a capital of £70,000 and backing from Lancashire, to take over Hoyland Silkstone Colliery at Platts Common from the liquidator of the earlier firm. It returned the colliery as separate Silkstone, Flockton, Thorncliffe, Parkgate and Fenton mines, employed 1,533 people in 1894 and 2,011 in 1923, when it gave its annual output as 360,000 tons, and applied to amalgamate with Newton, Chambers and Co. in 1929.
