Digby Colliery Company
The Nottinghamshire coal-owning partnership, later a limited company registered at 17 Derby Road, Nottingham, that sank Digby Colliery at Giltbrook in 1866 and New London Colliery at Newthorpe in the 1870s, and from 1899 sank and operated Gedling Colliery east of Nottingham until its operations passed into the nationalised industry on 1 January 1947. Its principal proprietor in the early years was the Lenton tanner Thomas Bayley; his descendant Sir Henry Readett-Bayley was managing director in the 1920s.
