Cemex UK Operations Ltd

The UK operating arm of Cemex, the Mexican international building-materials group. Its British quarries in this archive span three quite different materials: Force Garth in Teesdale for whinstone, where it sought permission in 2012 to extract a further 5.2 million tonnes over fifteen years; Kensworth for chalk, some 8,000 tonnes a day of which are pumped as slurry through the company's 92-kilometre pipeline to the Rugby cement works it feeds; and Hyndford at Lanark for sand and gravel, where its 2012 application to extend westward into the buffer zone of the New Lanark World Heritage Site was refused by Scottish Ministers in a decision published in January 2017.
