Airedale Collieries Ltd

Formed in 1919 when the Wheldale coal company amalgamated with Allerton Bywater colliery, having already amalgamated with the Fryston coal company; it held all three Castleford-area pits until nationalisation, and was the owner at the time of the fatal explosion at Allerton Bywater in 1930.
