On the morning of Thursday 19 November 1931 a heavy fall of roof at a parting in New Lodge Colliery, Burry Port, buried and killed two repairers, William Jones and Joseph Lewis.

Cause
A fall of roof at a parting while the men were preparing to set timber.
What happened
The two repairers were working at a parting, preparing the foot for a pair of timbers, when a considerable fall of roof came down and buried them both. When they were dug out they were dead, apparently killed instantly. Both were married men.
