The football club of Yorkshire Main Colliery at Edlington, near Doncaster: descended from the village's welfare and Rangers sides of the 1920s, re-formed as Yorkshire Main Colliery F.C. in 1960, and renamed Yorkshire Main F.C. in 1986 after the pit closed. It still plays at the miners' welfare ground on Edlington Lane.

The mining history in this record

The present club claims descent from Edlington Rangers, formed in 1925, also recorded as Edlington Welfare; the side played in the Doncaster leagues and used the Yorkshire Main name for a spell in the late 1940s before folding in 1958.

A new Yorkshire Main Colliery F.C. was formed in 1960 and joined the Doncaster and District Senior League. After spells out of the game it returned in 1980 and won the Third Division, moved up through the Sheffield leagues and in 1983 joined the Northern Counties East League. The colliery closed in 1985, and in 1986 the club dropped 'Colliery' from its name.

Legacy today

Yorkshire Main F.C. reached NCEL Division One in 1990 and entered the FA Vase once, in 1990-91. It has since played in the Sheffield and Hallamshire, Central Midlands and Doncaster leagues, at the Yorkshire Main Miners Welfare ground on Edlington Lane, New Edlington.
