The mining history in this record

Shirebrook grew from a village of 600 to a mining town of 11,000 within fifteen years of its colliery being sunk from 1896. The football club was founded as Shirebrook Colliery in 1985 and joined the Central Midlands League, winning its Senior Division in 1985-86 and finishing runner-up in Division One the following season to reach the Premier Division. It first played at Warren Terrace before moving to Langwith Road, where a record crowd of 2,200 watched a friendly against Mansfield Town in 1991, played as part of the sale of Gary Castledine to Mansfield. In 1993, the year Shirebrook Colliery closed, the club changed its name to Shirebrook Town.

Legacy today

As Shirebrook Town it won the Central Midlands League Supreme Division in 2000-01 and 2001-02, was promoted to the Northern Counties East League, and won its Division One in 2003-04. It joined the United Counties League in 2024 and plays at Langwith Road.
