The mining history in this record

Langold was built between 1923 and 1927 to house the miners of the new Firbeck Main Colliery, sunk from 1923. Its football club, Firbeck Main, also recorded as Firbeck Main Colliery, first appears in the FA Cup in 1935-36.

The club played in the Worksop leagues through the Second World War and joined the Yorkshire League when the war ended, finishing eighth of fifteen in 1945-46 before leaving after a single season. It went on entering the FA Cup until 1949-50, losing in the preliminary or first qualifying rounds to colliery and works sides such as Brodsworth Main, Rawmarsh Welfare and Staveley Welfare.

Legacy today

The club's record survives in the league and FA Cup tables. Firbeck Colliery closed on 31 December 1968, and many of its miners moved to Maltby, Manton, Shireoaks and Steetley.
