China Stone

Also called Cornish stone: a partially kaolinised, feldspar-rich granite, distinct from china clay though found in the same district and formed by the same weathering process taken less far. Ground to powder at water-powered mills, it was added to the porcelain and pottery bodies and glazes made from china clay to give them strength, translucency and a lower firing temperature.
