Mines in North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire's lead-mining landscape is concentrated in the Yorkshire Dales, where Grassington Moor was worked intensively under the Duke of Devonshire's mineral agents through the 19th century; its smelt-mill flue, nearly 1,600 metres long and built to recover lead lost in waste gases, remains one of the most striking industrial remains anywhere in the Dales.
