Mines in Angus

Angus quarried pavement. The flaggy sandstones of the Dundee Formation split naturally into flat sheets, and from the late 18th century they were worked around Carmyllie and Arbroath into roofing slabs and paving stone — 'Arbroath pavement' — that was shipped out to floor and roof half of urban Scotland and a good deal beyond it.
