Worked coal at Woolley from 1854 and, as the Woolley Coal Co. Ltd, bought Woolley Colliery in 1867; the Durham Mining Museum still names it as owner at the fatal accidents of 1873 and 1891, before Fountain and Burnley took over in 1894.
