Wollaton Colliery Company
The company formed about 1873 to work the coal under some 3,000 acres leased from Lord Middleton of Wollaton Park, west of Nottingham; later the Wollaton Collieries Co. Ltd, and chaired in 1898 by Sir James Reckitt with William Dawson as managing director. Its operations passed to the National Coal Board on 1 January 1947.
