A captain in the King's Regiment of Light Dragoons, originally from London, who came to Yorkshire with the army, bought or leased the Peak Alum Works at Ravenscar in 1763 and in 1774 built the house above them known as Ravenhill or Peak Hall. His daughter Ann Willis inherited both and sold the works on in 1834. Recorded as Childs in some accounts.
