William Chaytor
Of Croft Hall, Yorkshire, who bought the Witton Castle estate for £78,000 in 1816, extended the trial boring begun by the Stobart family, and opened the Jane Pit in 1819 — the working that began commercial coal extraction at Witton Park. Henry Chaytor is recorded as owner of the colliery from 1875 to 1880.
