Whitby Stone Company

Formed to work the newly discovered Grosmont ironstone from 1836, sending the first trial cargo of ore to the Birtley Iron Company that year. Its mines were bought out by Charles and Thomas Bagnall after they took over the Grosmont ironworks in 1862.
