Thomas North

The Nottingham coalmaster (1811 to 1868) who built the Babbington Coal Company from small pits on Babbington Moor into the Cinderhill, Newcastle, Kimberley and Babbington collieries, held from the Duke of Newcastle, and pioneered steam railways and pit-village housing in the district.
