The Moira Colliery Company Limited

Formed in 1895 on the death of Lord Donington, when the Hastings family’s direct ownership of the Moira pits came to an end. It joined the Donisthorpe Colliery Company and the Donington Sanitary Pipe & Fire Brick Company in erecting the Bath Lane obelisk to their employees killed in the First World War, and held the collieries until nationalisation in 1947.
