The Lords Vernon
Lords of the manor and sole landowners at Poynton, who owned and worked the Poynton and Worth collieries from 1832 until they closed in 1935. The concern was the largest in Cheshire, and had the advantages of good local markets and, from the opening of the standard gauge railway in 1845, excellent transport to them.
