Recorded as owners of Gentlemen Colliers from 1895 to 1918, following J. Smith from 1880 to 1890 — the name returned in the official 1880 list of collieries at work. Edwin, Milsom, Amos and John Smith are named as the colliery proprietors in a case reported in the Dean Forest Guardian in 1905. They had probably bought the neighbouring New Hawkins Colliery in 1898.
